COVID-19: Resources & Clinic Closing

Updated: Nov 4, 2020

March 13th, 2020

Greetings Everyone:

We are writing to share our difficult decision to close both our NYC and NJ clinical operations for a two week duration, after which we will reassess based on the status of COVID-19 in our area at that time.  Like many, we too have grappled with the hard reality of making this choice, given the potential financial consequences to our small business.

However, our choice is weighted against the larger, long-term potential impact  that not closing our doors could have on the health of our patients, their families, and our surrounding communities.

As best we can, we are carefully accumulating accurate, substantiated COVID-19 information from reliable resources: The Center for Disease Control (CDC), Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, and University of CA, San Francisco (UCSF), and the "Critical Preparedness Guidelines" from the World Health Organization (WHO). Even then, we know our scope and understanding will need to continually evolve to keep up.

The available data surmises that people are contagious from 2 -14 days prior to being symptomatic, which will make it extremely difficult to ascertain each patient's health status with any true certainty. As such, "social distancing" is critical.

Interrupting the spread of the virus is critical, and the window for doing this is now. Today! Every 24 hour period makes an exponential difference <--- Click for detailed research.

Our decision to close is based on a choice to proactively participate in  interrupting COVID-19's spread throughout our communities.

Every medical and public health source reiterates several key elements to interrupting COVID-19 from spreading to unmanageable proportions: (1) social distancing, (2) vigorous hand washing at minimum of 20 seconds, and (3) carefully covering mucus membranes when coughing / sneezing, (4) avoiding fecal - oral contact.

Please feel free to reach out via telephone, email, SPW's Facebook pages - we are very available right now (don't laugh, yep - we're out of work) and happy to be a sounding board, and resource of information and support.

We will continue to stay engaged with our patients, both by way of being a source of factual information, assuaging fears, preventative tips and strategies, and via telemedicine when / if appropriate.

Aside from this, we intend to do a whole lot of gardening, cooking, sleeping, studying, and connecting (remotely) with our friends, families, colleagues. Cristina's going to be taking long runs on isolated forest trails with our dog (Phoenix), and Phil's going to be composing and playing more music and working on house "fix-it" projects.

CONTACT INFO: We are answering our own phones!

Please stay healthy and safe everyone! Cristina & Phil

So, please do not hesitate to reach out - we are available via our the SPW Clinical phone line, at:  (917) 210-1063, extension # 1 for Cristina, extension #2 for Phil.
